Security
Security is a big concern for any Internet based system.
Unfortunately, many of the systems and protocols in use today
are not secure and can potentially allow hackers to gain access
to your systems.
We suggest all customers run a firewall to protect their systems.
We suggest only allowing traffic to these ports:
| Inbound |
Outbound |
- DNS
- FTP
- HTTP
- HTTPS
- ICMP (e.g. Ping)
- SSH

- NTP

- SMTP

We strongly encourage our customers to use secure methods and
procedures while using on the Internet. Here are some general guidelines:
- Use SFTP instead of FTP.
- Use SSH instead of telnet.
- Avoid using insecure protocols when doing anything over the Internet.
- Do not share passwords. If someone needs access to your system, set up an account for them
with appropriate access restrictions.
- Use a different password for each system to limit exposure if a password is compromised.
- If you write your passwords down, make sure they are kept in a secure place.
- Do not send passwords or other sensitive information (e.g. credit card numbers) through email or messenger services.
- Change passwords immediately if you suspect a breach.
- Change passwords regularly even if you do not suspect a breach.
